Fallout: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game, also known as simply Fallout, is a turn-based role-playing video game, the hugely influential first installment in the popular Fallout series. It was developed and published by Interplay Studios and released in October 1997.

The game is set in an alternate universe that deviates following World War II, where the United States remains culturally stagnant while developing advanced technology, resulting in a retro-futuristic world where the aesthetics and culture of the 1950s exists well into the 21st century. Despite great advances in technology, by the mid-21st century, the world is locked into a series of brutal wars over non-renewable resources, culminating in a nuclear war in 2077 that destroys much of society.

Fallout takes place in 2161 and players control the 'Vault Dweller', a resident of Vault 13, part of a sophisticated network of underground fallout shelters known as 'Vaults' built by the United States Government before the Great War of 2077. Vault 13's Water Chip, responsible for the processing and recycling of the Vault's water supply, has failed and the Vault Dweller is tasked to find a new one before the Vault dies of thirst. To do so, they must venture out into the wasteland that used to be Southern California and fight savage raiders and bloodthirsty mutants. Soon, the Vault Dweller finds that not just the Vault is at stake, but what's left of the Human race.

The following weapons appear in the video game Fallout: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game:

  • 1Handguns
  • 2Shotguns
  • 3SMGs
  • 4Rifles
  • 5BB Guns
    • 5.1Red Ryder BB Gun
  • 6Heavy Weapons
  • 7Energy weapons
    • 7.6'Winchester P94 plasma rifle'
  • 8Grenades & Explosives

'Colt 6520 10mm Pistol'

Based on the revolver from the cover of the comic Hard Boiled, the Colt 6520 Autoloading pistol is known for its durability and reliability, with individual weapons known to have survived well over 150 years of sun, sand, wind, and nuclear fallout. Its simple design allows it to be repaired with very simple tools, a great asset to those wandering the wasteland. The 6520 is given to you at the start of the game, and is relatively common to find.

'SIG-Sauer 14mm Pistol'

A Swiss SIG-Sauer 14mm handgun, likely designed for long-range pistol hunting or target shooting. It was imported to the United States from the European Commonwealth before the war. Decently common early on in the survivor era after The Great War, but the number of working units have swiftly declined. The 14mm Pistol is relatively good, but is beaten by guns such as the .223 Pistol. The gun can be bought from traders such as Neil or Smitty. The pistol has external features similar to a Hammerli 280.

Hammerli 280 - .22 LR

Mauser C96

The Mauser C96 appears as the 'Mauser M/96 9mm', a very rare small gun. So rare that only one is obtainable in Fallout, that one place being the corpse of Gizmo, the casino owner in Junktown. The 9mm Mauser is a little easier to find in Fallout 2, though.

Mauser C96 'Red 9' - 9x19mm.

Desert Eagle Mark XIX

The Desert Eagle Mark XIX appears as the 'Desert Eagle .44' and really serves as an excellent mid-game pistol, offering higher damage than the old 10mm, and with a fairly common ammo type. It out-ranges the .44 Magnum Revolver by a bit, and carries 2 more rounds in a magazine, but the .44 Magnum does more damage and can be fired for fewer AP. Great until you can get your hands on a Needler Pistol or .223 Pistol. Could be replaced by the 14mm Pistol, but only with an armor-piercing fix patch. The Desert Eagle is sold by traders such as Killian and Smitty and is carried by some members of the Khans.

LAPD 2019 Blaster (Modified Charter Arms Bulldog)

The .'223 Pistol' is the god of all the handguns. It does more damage than any other non-energy pistol, and fires a .223 FMJ round, which has the best DR modifier and second-best AC modifier of any ammo type. The only downside is the low ammo capacity, a paltry 5 rounds. Even the 14mm and .44 revolver hold more ammo. Still, with .223 a common caliber and the damage on the .223 pistol being astronomical, it's easily one of the best weapons in the game. It is based on Deckard's handgun from Blade Runner. You can get the .223 pistol by completing the quest given to you by Irwin in the Hub. According to the game's description, the pistol is based on a cropped rifle.

'Winchester Widowmaker'

The Winchester Widowmaker shotgun is a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun with a mahogany grip. It also comes in a sawed-off variant. It has decent damage, but terrible range. Still, it is an all-around good weapon for early in the game. The Widowmaker is easy to find, sold by most weapon vendors and is carried by the guards at Junktown.

This is the screen used Zabala short barreled shotgun used by Denzel Washington in the film Man on Fire.

'Winchester City-Killer combat shotgun'

The Winchester City-Killer combat shotgun is a pretty powerful close-range weapon, outclassing pretty much every other small arm except the AK-112 loaded with JHP rounds. There are better options for destroying enemies at close range, but the combat shotgun's ammo type is far more common and efficient compared to 5mm or flamer fuel. Getting the City-Killer, though, is more difficult. It can be purchased at either the Gun Runners or Jake in the Hub.

'H&K MP9 10mm SMG'

It's considered to be one of the finest weapons in the world. The single shot is acceptable, instantly making the 6520 pistol useless, and the burst mode is excellent. The MP9 is easy to control, and can dish out more punishment than other firearms in its size category. Consequently, it is highly popular among people requiring a powerful but compact source of firepower with low maintenance requirements. This weapon is vital amongst freelance-mercs as it can spew death at close range. It is an excellent weapon early in the game and can shred unarmored foes. It is very deadly at close range. Ammo can be found almost anywhere.

'AK-112 5mm Assault Rifle'

The AK-112 was an old military model of supposedly Soviet origin that was in service during the early 21st century. Chambered for 5mm ammunition, it utilizes a 24-round magazine and is capable of firing single-shot or in bursts. This weapon was eventually considered aged and was scheduled to be replaced just prior to the Great War. Finding a AK-112 isn't too hard, as it is sold by merchants such as Jake and Morpheus; it can also be stolen from Brotherhood of Steel recruits at Lost Hills.

'Colt Rangemaster Hunting Rifle'

The Colt Rangemaster is probably the first rifle you'll get your hands on in the game, and is chambered for common .223 ammo. The rifle is good for early game usage, but after a while it is outdone by weapons such as the DKS-501. The Rangemaster can be found easily, as raiders usually carry it when you're level 3 to 7 and Kenji, the assassin sent to kill Killian in Junktown, also carries one.

'DKS-501 Sniper Rifle'

This rifle allows the user to do insane damage to the critical body areas, if the player has the stats to back it up. The Sniper Rifle does not share the same reduction in accuracy when enemies are close as the Scoped Hunting Rifle. The Sniper Rifle boasts good damage, max range, and ammo for it is quite common. It has two glaring flaws however - it has a small ammo capacity, and costs an extra AP to fire. This means targeted shots, although accurate, take 7 AP to fire. The DKS-501 can be found on the robots guarding the Glow, as well as it being sold by Jake.

Red Ryder BB Gun

The Red Ryder BB gun has good magazine capacity, but it is almost useless in-game because of a very low damage potential. The special 'Limited Edition' version however has damage well above the hunting rifle, despite a much lower AP cost. In a nod to Christmas Story, both versions do bonus damage when used for aimed shots against eyes.

Daisy Red Ryder - .177

Red Ryder LE BB gun

The 'Red Ryder LE BB gun' is an limited edition of the regular Red Ryder BB gun with a cleaner appearance, tube under the barrel, different handle and a compass in the stock. This powerful weapon can do large amounts of damage in the right hands.

'Flambe 450 model flamethrower'

The Flamer is a sort of middle ground between the big guns. It has the shortest range of any big gun, but does quite a bit more damage per shot compared to miniguns. Fire resistance is often lower than Normal resistance, so a flamer can usually do more damage to an enemy in Power Armor than a minigun, and has less danger to the user compared to the BigBazooka Rocket launcher. Floaters, especially, have very low Fire resistance. The only downside to the flamer is the heavy ammo, which weighs 10 pounds for a cluster of 10 shots. The Flamer can be found on Barry the mutant, as well as being sold by Jake.

'Rockwell CZ53 Personal Minigun'

A Rockwell CZ53 personal minigun. A multi-barreled chaingun firing 5mm ammunition at over 6,000 RPM. The favorite weapon of the Mariposa Super Mutants. When the Great War struck, it was already an aging design and was slowly being replaced by the more advanced Avenger miniguns. Based on the GE M134 Minigun. The minigun is commonly found on Super Mutants, specifically the ones at the Cathedral and at the Mariposa Military Base.

M47 Dragon

The 'Rockwell BigBazooka Rocket Launcher' is an M47 Dragon missile launcher complete with SU-36/P daysight tracker, with an exaggerated bazooka-like muzzle and no bipod. In Fallout, it is very useful, capable of doing massive damage to clustered targets from long-range. In Fallout 2, however, by the time the player finds the weapon and can access a consistent supply of ammo for it, they're likely near the end of the game, where enemies tend to wear Power Armor of some sort. Even then, the effective-yet-oddly-designed armor piercing rockets it uses can slice through most Enclave contingents with one or two blasts. Most enemies, including Deathclaws and aliens, though, have very little explosion resistance, making packs excellent targets. Using this on a locked door will destroy the door but you can still walk through it. The BigBazooka is only found on some merchants, such as Jake or Zack from the Gun Runners.

'Alien Blaster'

The alien blaster is a weapon of great extremes. It has the highest damage-per-action-point of all single-shot weapons in game, as well as the second-highest ammunition capacity of all single-shot weapons. It is also highly accurate. Offsetting these strengths is its extremely short range of 10 hexes, the shortest of all ranged weapons. The alien blaster can be found in the 'Alien Ship' special encounter.

'Wattz 1000 laser pistol'

The Wattz 1000 laser pistol is a civilian model, so the wattage is lower than military or police versions. Can be found on the fifth floor of the West Tek Research Facility or pickpocketed from Paul in the Lost Hills bunker and General Maxson in the Lost Hills bunker.

'Wattz 2000 laser rifle'

The Wattz 2000 laser rifle is a modified version of the DKS-501 Sniper Rifle powered by micro fusion cells and an extended barrel. Having a very long range and acute accuracy, the laser rifle can be effectively used in long distance combat. The rifle is carried by some Super Mutants patrolling the Mariposa Military Base.

'H&K L30 Gatling Laser'

The H&K L30 Gatling Laser is the ultimate energy weapon. Designed specifically for military use, these were in the prototype stage at the beginning of the War. It is used by Brotherhood of Steel Paladins and Unity Nightkin. It is also based on the GE M134 Minigun.

'Glock 86 plasma pistol'

The Glock 86 Plasma Pistol (also known as Plasma Defender) is a powerful energy-based handgun, being able to punch through many low-level critters and most types of armor with ease. Designed by the Gaston Glock artificial intelligence. Shoots a small bolt of superheated plasma. Powered by a small energy cell, like all energy weapons.

'Winchester P94 plasma rifle'

The Winchester P94 plasma rifle is a bulky, industrial-grade energy caster powered by microfusion cells. The superheated plasma bolt forms in a special chamber then sent down a superconducting barrel and stabilized by electromagnetic claws upon exiting it. Powered by microfusion cells.

'Turbo plasma rifle'

The Turbo plasma rifle is the modified version of Winchester P94 plasma rifle. This version has the plasma bolt chamber hot-wired to accelerate the bolt formation process, resulting in an increase in the rate of fire.

All

'Frag grenade'

One of the most commonly used throwing explosives in this game, the frag grenade bears a strong resemblance to Mecar M72 hand grenade with some external changes. Fragmentation grenades are pretty rare, but can cause great peril for weaker enemies.

Mecar M72 High-Explosive Fragmentation Hand Grenade.

Molotov Cocktail

The Molotov cocktail is a very cheap and easy to use and produce weapon and can be found in the Khan Base. The weapon has the explosive damage type (not fire as would be expected).

'Plasma grenade'

The Plasma grenades are essentially an improved version of Frag grenades: it has higher damage, but are more expensive.

'Pulse grenade'

The Pulse grenades are a metal ball with a window in the center. It is the most powerful throwing weapon in the game. When the grenades detonate, they emit a powerful electromagnetic burst which is only mildly harmful to biological creatures, but fatal to robots.

Dynamite

Fallout New Vegas Lost Laser Pistol Grip

The dynamite has a timer that can be set anywhere between 10 seconds and 3 minutes, in 10-second increments. Dynamite has high damage and can kill several enemies at once.

Plastic Explosives

The Plastic Explosives are a chunk of Cordex, a military brand of plastic explosives. This explosive is more powerful than dynamite and sports a wider blast radius. Like dynamite, it has a timer that can be set anywhere between 10 seconds and 3 minutes, in 10-second increments.
